My Take – Participation Numbers + Data Project
Participation Numbers – How Important Are They?
Here’s my answer. Important! Numbers = Data. Data is useful (if used correctly). I didn’t understand the use case of data very well as I’ve never been a huge fan of Math.
However, over the past 6-8 months I’m happy to say I’m now a fan. A fan, that has purchased courses, books and invested a lot of time on YouTube to get better at understanding of what data analysis is and how to do it.
Kurtis Pykes Data Science & AI Blogger | Top 1000 Medium Writers on AI and Data Science lists 5 top reasons on “The Importance of Data.”
” Those five areas are (in no particular order of importance); 1) decision-making, 2) problem solving, 3) understanding, 4) improving processes, and 5) understanding customers. “
All of the above are potential conversation starters if data is presented in a compelling way to the correct target audience.
This leads me to share a data project I hope kick starts a conversation for those invested in the women’s game. Within this niche I haven’t highlighted a specific audience (coaches, event operators etc.). This data can be explored in many directions. It also has it’s limitations (depending on where the conversation goes). This is not solely for those based in the USA so please feel free to join the conversation or take something away that may start a conversation about participation at your club, schools etc.
P.S. I looked at this data more than 8 years ago whilst working for BlueStar Basketball. I can’t remember exactly what my work process was, but the overall goal I took away was to plot numbers to show and increase or decrease in participation.
